# Followed channels

Follow a channel or a playlist and OmniGet checks it in the background for new videos. It sends a notification when something new appears and, with **Auto-download** on, puts the new videos in the queue by itself.

## Where it is

- **Settings › Downloads › Followed channels**, under **Show advanced options**.
- The tray menu has a **Channels** submenu with the channels you follow.
- To follow many channels at once from FreeTube, NewPipe or YouTube, use **Import subscriptions** in [Download tools](https://getomniget.com/docs/dl-tools).

## How to use it

### Follow a channel or playlist

1. Paste the link in **Channel or playlist URL**.
2. Click **Follow**.

The channel appears in the list with **Last checked never**. The first check only notes the videos that are already there; from then on, only uploads that appear later count as new. Each check reads the latest 30 videos of the channel or playlist.

### Choose what happens with new videos

Each channel has three controls:

- **Enabled**: when off, OmniGet stops checking the channel but keeps it in the list.
- **Auto-download**: when on, new videos go straight to the [Queue](https://getomniget.com/docs/queue) with your default folder and quality. When off, you only get the notification. It is off for every new channel.
- **Every (min)**: how often the channel is checked, from 5 to 1440 minutes. The default is 60.

When a check finds new videos, OmniGet shows a system notification with the channel name and how many are new.

### Check right away

Click **Check now** on a channel. OmniGet shows **… new video(s)** with the count, and downloads them if **Auto-download** is on.

From the tray, open **Channels** and click a channel’s name to check it now.

### Stop following

Click **Remove** and confirm **Stop following this channel?**. Videos already downloaded stay on disk.

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Enabled** | Checks the channel in the background. | On |
| **Auto-download** | Queues new videos by itself. | Off |
| **Every (min)** | Minutes between checks. | 60 |

## Common problems

### The interval is not accepted

**Every (min)** accepts whole minutes between 5 and 1440. The box goes back to the saved value; type a number in that range.

### No new videos are found

- Checks run only while OmniGet is running, including in the tray. A closed app checks nothing.
- The first check after you follow a channel never reports videos; it records what is already there.
- Checks use yt-dlp. If a channel stops working, update yt-dlp in [Dependencies](https://getomniget.com/docs/dependencies).

### The tray’s Channels submenu is empty or grey

The tray list is refreshed when you open **Followed channels** in Settings. Open it once after starting OmniGet and the submenu fills in.
