# Dependencies

OmniGet downloads with yt-dlp and joins and converts files with FFmpeg. It installs and updates its own copies, and the **Dependencies** table lets you check them, update them, go back to an earlier yt-dlp, or use a binary of your own.

## Where it is

**Settings › Advanced › Dependencies**.

## How to use it

### Read the table

Each row shows the **Name**, the **Version**, the **Status** and an **Action**:

- **Status**: **Installed**, **Outdated** (the version misses published security fixes) or **Missing**.
- Next to the status, where the file comes from: **Managed** (OmniGet’s own copy), **PATH** (a copy installed on your system) or **Flatpak**.

### Install or update

Click the button in **Action**:

- **Install** when the tool is **Missing**.
- **Update** to get the current version of OmniGet’s copy.
- **Get Managed** when OmniGet is using a copy from your **PATH** and you want its own copy instead.

When it is done, OmniGet shows the name and the new version.

Shortly after it starts, OmniGet also asks yt-dlp to update itself, once per session, so sites keep working without you doing anything.

### Roll yt-dlp back

A new yt-dlp sometimes breaks a site that worked before. When you click **Update** on yt-dlp, OmniGet keeps the version it replaced, up to the last 3.

1. Click **More options** (the menu next to **Update**) on the yt-dlp row.
2. Under **Previous versions**, click **Roll back to …** with the date you want.
3. OmniGet shows **Rolled back to …** with the version.

Only versions replaced with the **Update** button are kept; the automatic update at start does not keep the old one. FFmpeg has no previous versions.

### Use your own binary

For yt-dlp or FFmpeg:

1. Click **More options** on the row.
2. Click **Pick file from disk…** and choose the program.

The menu then shows **Using your own file**. To go back, click **Use the managed one again**; OmniGet shows **Back to the managed binary**. **Show folder** opens the folder of the file in use.

### Tools OmniGet installs by itself

Some tools do not appear in the table. OmniGet gets them when needed:

- A JavaScript runtime that yt-dlp needs for some sites. OmniGet uses Deno, Node or Bun if one is installed, and downloads Deno otherwise.
- gallery-dl, the first time you use **Gallery** or **Profile sync** in [Download tools](https://getomniget.com/docs/dl-tools).

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Install** / **Update** / **Get Managed** | Installs or updates OmniGet’s copy. | OmniGet’s managed copy |
| **Pick file from disk…** | Uses a yt-dlp or FFmpeg file you choose. | Off |
| **Use the managed one again** | Goes back to OmniGet’s copy. | Shown when you use your own file |
| **Previous versions** | Rolls yt-dlp back to a version it replaced. | Up to 3 kept |

## Common problems

### Could not check installed components. Try again.

OmniGet could not read the versions. Click the retry button under the message.

### yt-dlp needs an update to keep up with this site.

The site changed. Click **Update** on yt-dlp, then retry the download from the [Queue](https://getomniget.com/docs/queue). If the new version breaks something else, roll back as above.

### FFmpeg is missing

Merging video and audio, converting, re-encoding and several [Download tools](https://getomniget.com/docs/dl-tools) need FFmpeg. Click **Install** on its row.
