# Download tools

The **Tools** tab collects 23 extra tools for links, streams and files you download. Each one does a single job that the box on Home does not, such as recording a live, listing every file on a page or saving a channel as a TV show.

## Where it is

**Downloads › Tools**. Click a tool to open it, and **All tools** to go back to the list.

Most tools save into your **Default folder** from **Settings › Downloads**. If none is set, they ask you to choose one first.

## The tools

### Smart mode

Save your usual choices once as a preset, then download any link with one click. A preset has a **Name**, a **Kind** (**Video** or **Audio only**), a **Quality**, **Subtitles** (language codes such as `en,pt-BR`, or none) and a **Folder**. **Video**, **Video with subtitles** and **Audio** come ready. Click **Paste and download** to use the link in your clipboard, or paste several links, one per line, and click **Download**.

### Search sites

Type a title, an artist or a few words and search YouTube, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, Bilibili, Niconico and the Internet Archive at the same time, without an account. Untick the sites you do not want under **Sites to search**. Each result has **Download** and **Audio only**. For a search from Home, see [Search without a link](https://getomniget.com/docs/search).

### Stream links

Paste a link and click **List streams** to see every video and audio stream the site offers, largest first, with its size. Filter with **Show** (**All**, **Video + audio**, **Video only**, **Audio only**). For each stream you can **Copy link**, **Copy as curl** or **Download** only that one; **Copy all as JSON** copies the whole list. Direct links from video sites often expire after a few hours and may work only from your network.

### From a cURL command

For a file that only downloads while you are signed in. In your browser’s developer tools, open the **Network** tab, right-click the file’s request and choose **Copy › Copy as cURL**. Paste it here and click **Download**: OmniGet downloads the file with the same cookie, referer and headers. Copies from Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari work, in bash or Windows (cmd) form. Only plain downloads (GET requests) work, not commands that send a form. The cookie stays on your computer and goes only to that file’s server.

### Gallery

Paste a link to a gallery, album, profile or category and click **Download gallery**. OmniGet saves its files with gallery-dl, in one folder per site and gallery. Under **Keep:** choose **Images**, **Videos** and **Other files**, and use **Skip files under** to leave small files out. Cookies saved by the [Browser extension](https://getomniget.com/docs/extension) are used when present, for sites that show everything only to signed-in users.

### Import subscriptions

Bring your channels from FreeTube (`.db`, `.csv`, `.json`, `.opml`), NewPipe (`.json`), a YouTube Takeout (`.csv`), any OPML feed list, or plain links. Click **Choose file…** or paste channel links, tick the channels, and click **Follow**. Turn on **Download new videos automatically** to get uploads published after today. The channels then appear in [Followed channels](https://getomniget.com/docs/channels).

### Engine per link

Paste a list of links, one per line, or click **Open a .txt**, then click **Check links**. Lines starting with `#` and repeated links are skipped. For each link OmniGet shows the engine it picked (**Auto: …**): **yt-dlp**, **gallery-dl (images and galleries)**, **Direct file (segmented)**, **Torrent**, **P2P** or one of its own site engines. Change the **Engine** where you know better, then click **Download** to queue them all.

### Captions & info

Paste links, one per line, and OmniGet saves a `.txt` for each with the title, author, date, link, caption and tags, next to your downloads. Turn on **Also save the details as JSON** to keep everything the site gave in a `.json` file too.

### Size check

Paste a link, pick a **Quality** (or **Audio only**) and click **Check size**. OmniGet asks the site for the size of each file without downloading anything and tells you whether it fits in your download folder. Sizes marked `≈` are estimates from the site. A playlist takes a few seconds per video, and only its first videos are checked. Click **Download at this quality** to start.

### Files on a page

Paste the address of a page, such as a folder listing or a download page, and click **List files**. Every link to a video, audio, archive, document, image, installer or torrent is listed with its size. Filter by **File type**, tick the files you want and add them to the queue. For a video page, paste it on Home instead.

### Channel picker

Paste a channel or playlist link and click **List videos**. Filter with **Search titles**, **Length**, **Hide Shorts** and **Hide downloaded**; videos already in your [History](https://getomniget.com/docs/history) are marked **Downloaded**. Tick the ones you want, choose **Save as** (**Video** or **Audio only**) and the **Quality**, and download them in one go. See also [Playlists and channels](https://getomniget.com/docs/playlists).

### Trim with preview

Click **Choose a video**, then drag **Start** and **End** over the strip of frames and check the frame under each handle. Pick **Exact frame** (cuts on the frame you see and re-encodes to MP4 with H.264; slower) or **Fast** (copies without re-encoding, but starts at the keyframe before your start). Click **Save clip**: the clip is saved next to the original, which is not changed.

### Join videos

Click **Add files**, put the parts in order with **Move up** and **Move down**, and OmniGet checks them. When every part has the same codecs, size and sound, **Join without re-encoding** copies them end to end with no quality loss. Otherwise it tells you why, and **Join and re-encode to MP4** converts them to the size of the first part. The joined file is saved next to the first part.

### Profile sync

Add the link of a profile, album or gallery on any site gallery-dl knows and click **Add and sync**. The first sync downloads everything; each **Sync** after that gets only new posts and stops when it reaches files you already have. **Sync all** runs every profile. **Remove** keeps the files and forgets only what was saved, so adding the profile again downloads everything.

### Record a live

Paste the link of a live stream page or of an `.m3u8` playlist, pick a **Quality** and how long to record under **Stop after** (a number of minutes, or **until I stop**), and click **Record**. OmniGet records from the current moment, not from the start, and saves an MP4 when you click **Stop and save**, when the time is up or when the live ends. It records HLS lives, the kind most sites use; protected (DRM) streams are not recorded. To record a live from its beginning instead, see [SponsorBlock, chapters and live streams](https://getomniget.com/docs/sponsorblock).

### Even out volume

Click **Add files…** and pick audio or video files. Choose a **Level** (**Music and streaming**, **Podcasts and speech**, or **TV and film (quieter, more range)**) and click **Even out**. OmniGet measures each file and adjusts its loudness (EBU R128), so a playlist or a folder of episodes plays at one level. A copy is saved next to each file; video is copied untouched. Needs FFmpeg.

### Pick tracks

Paste an HLS (`.m3u8`) or DASH (`.mpd`) link, or a video page, and click **List tracks**. Tick the **Video**, the **Audio** languages and the **Subtitles** you want, choose **Save as** (MKV keeps every audio language and subtitle; MP4 plays in more places) and click **Download selected**. You get one file with all of them.

### TV library

Paste a channel or playlist, pick the server under **For** (Jellyfin, Plex, Emby or Kodi), how many **Videos** (all or the latest ones), the **Quality** and a **Genre**, then click **Save as show**. OmniGet saves it as a show: a folder per channel, a season per year, episodes named by date, with cover images and the NFO files media servers read. Run it again later to add only what is new. Point your server’s TV library at the download folder. Plex reads no NFO files, so the details are written inside each MP4.

### Download from any app

macOS only. Click **Add to Services menu** to add **Download with OmniGet** to the macOS Services menu. Then select text with one or more links in any app (Mail, Notes, Messages, a PDF, a chat), right-click and choose **Services › Download with OmniGet**: every link goes to your downloads. You can give it a shortcut in **System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services**. On Windows and Linux, use the [Browser extension](https://getomniget.com/docs/extension) or the [clipboard hotkey](https://getomniget.com/docs/clipboard-hotkeys).

### Export links

Pick which downloads from your history to export under **Downloads** (**Failed downloads**, **Finished downloads** or **All downloads**) and the **Period**, from the last day or week to **Any time**. Click **Copy links** or **Save as .txt** for a list with one link per line. Open that file later in **Engine per link** to queue the links again.

### When downloads finish

Choose what happens when the last download in the queue is done: **Nothing**, **Quit OmniGet**, **Sleep** or **Shut down**. Seeding torrents and paused downloads do not hold it back. When the queue empties, you get 30 seconds to **Cancel**. The choice lasts only until OmniGet closes.

Warning

**Shut down** asks open apps to quit. Save your work before you leave it on.

### Proxy check

Type a proxy (for example `socks5://127.0.0.1:7890`), or leave the box empty to test the one saved in **Settings › Advanced › Network**, and click **Test proxy**. OmniGet compares the address and country sites see with and without it, and warns when they are the same. Add a **Link to test (optional)** to open it through the proxy. **Use this proxy for all downloads** saves it in Settings. See [Proxy and network](https://getomniget.com/docs/network).

### aria2 server

Connect to an aria2 started with `--enable-rpc` on a NAS, a seedbox or another computer: type its address and the **Secret (–rpc-secret)**, then click **Connect**. Paste links (http, https, ftp, sftp or magnet), one per line, and click **Send to aria2**. They download on that machine, not on yours. You can **Pause**, **Resume** and **Remove** its downloads from here. The address is remembered; the secret is not.

Warning

aria2 sends the secret unencrypted over http. Use it only on your own network or behind https.

## Common problems

### Choose a download folder in Settings first

The tool needs a **Default folder**. Set one in **Settings › Downloads**; see [Folders and names](https://getomniget.com/docs/files).

### FFmpeg is needed for this

**Even out volume**, **Join videos**, **Trim with preview** and **Pick tracks** use FFmpeg. Install it in [Dependencies](https://getomniget.com/docs/dependencies). Without it, **Record a live** keeps a `.ts` file instead of an MP4.

### Download from any app does nothing on Windows or Linux

It is a macOS feature. Use the browser extension or the clipboard hotkey instead.
