# Music

Music is a player for the songs already on your computer. It reads your music folders, plays them with synced lyrics, an equalizer and volume leveling, and adds internet radio, downloads and batch tools for tags, conversion and quality checks.

## Where it is

**Superpowers › Music**. To turn it off or on: **Settings › Integrations › Music**, switch **Enable Music**.

## How to use it

1. Open **Music**. The first time, click **Add music folder** and pick the folder where you keep music. You can also paste a folder path in **Settings** inside Music.
2. Wait for the scan. The sidebar shows its progress, and later scans only re-read files that changed.
3. Click a song, an album or a playlist to play it. The player bar stays at the bottom.
4. Drop audio files, folders or `.m3u`, `.m3u8` and `.pls` playlists on the window to add them.

## The sections

| Section | What you find there |
| --- | --- |
| **Home** | **Shuffle all**, **Daily mix** (your top genre, in key), **Most played**, **Radio**, **Download**, then **Jump back in**, **Recently added**, **Your top artists** and **Rediscover**. |
| **Now playing** | The current song with its lyrics, and **Mixes well next**: songs in a compatible key and tempo. |
| **Songs** | Every song in a table you can sort and filter (**Lossless**, **Has lyrics**, **Never played**, **Not analyzed**, **Fake lossless**). |
| **Albums**, **Artists**, **Genres** | Your library grouped by tags. |
| **Folders** | Your library as it is on disk, with **Play folder**. |
| **Liked songs** | Songs you liked. |
| **Recently played** | What you played last. |
| **Playlists** | Normal playlists and smart playlists. |
| **Radio** | Internet radio: **Favorites**, **Discover** (search by name, country or tag) and **Add URL** for your own stream. |
| **Download** | Paste links, or type a song or artist to search. Finished songs land in your library. |
| **Tools** | Batch tools: **Analyze**, **Convert**, **Rename**, **Lyrics**, **Duplicates**, **Quality**. |
| **Stats** | Library size, listening by day and by hour, top songs, top artists and formats. |
| **Settings** | Music folders, the download folder, playback and history. |

### Playlists

- **New playlist**: the **+** next to **Playlists** in the sidebar. Drag songs onto a playlist in the sidebar, or right-click a song and choose **Add to playlist**.
- **New smart playlist**: a set of rules (**Match** all or any of these rules) on fields such as genre, year, BPM, key, rating, plays or last played, with **Sort by** and **Limit**. It updates itself.
- **Import M3U** and **Export as M3U** move playlists in and out of other players.

### The side panel

The queue, lyrics and sound controls open in a panel on the right, with three tabs:

- **Queue**: what plays next, **Save as playlist**, **Clear**, and a **Sleep timer** (including **End of song**).
- **Lyrics**: synced or plain lyrics. **Find lyrics** looks them up on LRCLIB. **Edit lyrics** accepts LRC or plain text, and **Sync by tapping** lets you press Space when each line starts. **Save to** chooses **Next to the song (.lrc)**, **Inside the file** or **Only in OmniGet**.
- **Sound**: **Equalizer** with presets, **Volume leveling**, **Transitions** (**Crossfade**, **Gapless**, **Automix**, **Skip silence**), **Playback speed** with **Keep pitch**, and the **Visualizer**.

### Radio

**Discover** searches a public station directory. **Add URL** takes an Icecast, Shoutcast, HLS `.m3u8`, `.pls` or `.m3u` address. When a station sends song titles, **Download this song** opens **Download** with the artist and title already typed.

### Download

Music downloads use the format in **Settings › Downloads**, **Music download format** (M4A by default), and are saved to an `OmniGet` folder inside your first music folder (or inside your system’s Music folder if you have none). The exact path is shown at the top of **Download** and in Music’s **Settings**. See [Audio only](https://getomniget.com/docs/audio).

### Tools

| Tool | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Analyze** | Measures loudness (for volume leveling), tempo, musical key, the waveform, silence and the real frequency range of each song, in the background. **Write ReplayGain tags** saves the gain inside the files so other players level the volume too. |
| **Convert** | Converts songs to MP3, AAC, Opus, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, ALAC or WAV, with file name tokens, silence trimming, volume leveling baked in, sample rate and fades. |
| **Rename** | Renames and moves files into folders from their tags. **Preview** first; nothing moves until you click **Rename files**. |
| **Lyrics** | Looks up lyrics for every song without them on LRCLIB. **Only synced lyrics** skips plain ones. |
| **Duplicates** | Finds the same song more than once and keeps the best-quality copy first. |
| **Quality** | Draws a spectrogram. A lossless file that stops in a hard line was likely converted from a lossy file. |

**Analyze**, **Convert** and **Quality** need FFmpeg. If it is missing, install it in **Settings › Dependencies**.

Right-click any song for **Play next**, **Add to queue**, **Rating**, **Edit info…** (tags, cover art and **Look up on MusicBrainz**), **Show in folder**, **Remove from library** and **Delete file**.

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Enable Music** | Shows Music in Superpowers and keeps the mini player available while you browse. | On |
| **Volume leveling** | **Auto** evens out loudness between songs and keeps an album’s dynamics when you play it in order. **Song**, **Album** and **Off** are the other modes. | **Auto** |
| **Never push peaks above −1 dBTP** | Prevents clipping when leveling boosts a song. | On |
| **Equalizer** | Bands, **Preamp** and presets. | Off, **Flat** |
| **Crossfade** | Overlaps the end of one song with the next. | Off |
| **Automix**, **Skip silence** | Smart transitions. They need the songs analyzed first. | Off |
| **Keep pitch** | Keeps the pitch when you change **Playback speed**. | On |
| **Visualizer** | **Bars**, **Circle**, **Wave** or **Off**. | **Bars** |
| **Music folders** | The folders Music reads, with **Scan for changes** and **Re-read all tags**. | None |
| **Clear listening history** | Erases history and stats. Play counts on songs stay. | |

The global music hotkey, which downloads the copied link as audio from anywhere, is in [Clipboard and global hotkeys](https://getomniget.com/docs/clipboard-hotkeys).

## Common problems

### Removing a folder or a song deleted nothing

That is on purpose. **Remove from library** and **Remove folder?** only take songs out of Music; the files stay on disk. A removed song comes back on the next scan if it is still inside a music folder. Only **Delete file** deletes from disk, and it asks first.

### A FLAC file is marked as fake lossless

The **Quality** check found a hard frequency cutoff, which usually means the file was made from an MP3 or AAC. The file still plays; it just is not true lossless.

### A radio station does not play

The message “This station isn’t responding. Try another one.” means the stream is down or the address changed. Pick another station, or paste a current stream address in **Add URL**.
