# Quality presets

The quality presets change several download defaults in one click: the default quality, whether metadata and a cover are embedded, and whether subtitles are downloaded. Pick the one closest to how you download most of the time, then adjust single settings if you need to.

## Where it is

**Settings › Downloads › Quality & format**, under **Show advanced options**.

## How to use it

1. Open **Quality & format** and click **Show advanced options**.
2. Click a preset card. It is saved at once and the card shows as selected.

A card shows as selected while your settings match it exactly. If you later change one of the settings it covers, no card is selected any more; your settings stay as you left them.

The presets change these settings: **Video quality** (**Settings › Downloads › Quality**), **Embed metadata** and **Embed thumbnail as cover** (**Output**), and **Download subtitles** (**Subtitles and metadata**). They do not touch the folder, the file name, the music format or anything else.

| Preset | Default quality | **Embed metadata** | **Embed thumbnail as cover** | **Download subtitles** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Fast** | 480p | Off | Off | Off |
| **Quality** | Best available | On | On | Off |
| **Compact** | 720p | On | Off | Off |
| **Music only** | Audio | On | On | Off |

- **Fast** gives small, quick downloads with nothing extra.
- **Quality** downloads the best version the site offers, with title, artist and cover written into the file.
- **Compact** keeps files smaller at 720p, with metadata and no cover.
- **Music only** makes audio the default for every link, with tags and cover art. The audio format is **Music download format**; see [Audio only](https://getomniget.com/docs/audio).

The default quality is what Home uses when you do not pick one for a link. You can always choose another quality for a single download; see [Quality, mode and formats](https://getomniget.com/docs/quality).

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Fast** | 480p, no metadata, no thumbnail, no subtitles. | Not selected |
| **Quality** | Best video, metadata and thumbnail. | Not selected |
| **Compact** | 720p, metadata, no thumbnail. | Not selected |
| **Music only** | Audio, tags and cover art. | Not selected |

With the factory settings (720p, metadata and cover on, subtitles off), no card is selected.

## Common problems

### No preset is selected

Your settings differ from every preset in at least one of the four settings. Click a card to apply it.

### Subtitles stopped downloading

Every preset turns **Download subtitles** off. Turn it back on in **Settings › Downloads › Subtitles and metadata**; see [Subtitles and metadata](https://getomniget.com/docs/subtitles-metadata).
