# SponsorBlock, chapters and live streams

OmniGet can use SponsorBlock, a community list of sponsor and self-promotion segments, to cut them out of YouTube videos or mark them as chapters. The same settings group splits videos by chapter and sets how live streams are recorded.

## Where it is

**Settings › Downloads › Per-platform options** (click **Show advanced options**), under **YouTube-specific**.

## How to use it

### Remove or mark sponsor segments

1.  Open **Settings › Downloads › Per-platform options**.
2.  Turn on **Remove SponsorBlock segments**. Two more settings appear.
3.  In **SponsorBlock action**, pick **Remove segments** to cut them out of the file, or **Mark only** to keep the video whole and add chapter markers you can skip in your player.
4.  Under **Segment types**, click the kinds of segment to act on. A highlighted chip is on.
5.  Download YouTube videos as usual.

### Split a video by chapters

Turn on **Split video by chapters**. When the video has chapter markers, each chapter is saved as a separate file.

### Live streams

Live streams that are still on air are not supported in the box on Home: a YouTube live fails with **Couldn’t download this.** To record one, use **Downloads › Tools › Record a live**. It records from the moment you start, for a set time or until you click **Stop and save**, and saves an MP4. It works with HLS lives, the kind most sites use. **Record live streams from the start** applies to live streams that OmniGet hands to yt-dlp (sites without a handler of their own): it captures the stream from its beginning instead of the current moment.

The **Segment types** you can add: **Intro**, **Outro / endcards**, **Preview / recap**, **Filler / tangent** and **Non-music section**.

## Common problems

### A sponsor segment was not cut, or too much was cut

SponsorBlock data comes from other viewers. It can miss a segment or cut slightly too much. Use **Mark only** if you want to keep the full video and skip by hand.

### Couldn’t download this. on a live stream

The box on Home does not download YouTube lives that are on air. Use **Record a live**, or wait until the live ends and download the replay.
