# Video tools with AI

**AI video tools** edits a video you already downloaded with FFmpeg: one-click actions for common jobs, and a box where you describe the edit in your own words. The AI part writes the FFmpeg command for you, and nothing runs until you have read it and confirmed.

## Where it is

In **Downloads**, on a finished video, click **AI video tools**. The window works on that file.

## How to use it

### Use a quick action

1. Open **AI video tools** on a finished video.
2. Under **Quick actions**, click one of the buttons (see the table below).
3. Wait while the window shows **Processing…**. When it says **Done — saved to:**, the path of the new file follows.

The quick actions run on your computer with FFmpeg and do not need an AI provider. Each one saves a new file next to the original, named after it with the action added (for example `clip.to_gif.gif`). The original is never changed.

| Button | What you get |
| --- | --- |
| **Extract audio** | The sound only, as an MP3 file. |
| **Remove audio** | The same video with no sound, copied without re-encoding. |
| **Convert to MP4** | An MP4 file (H.264 video and AAC audio) that plays almost anywhere. |
| **Convert to GIF** | An animated GIF without sound, scaled down and at a lower frame rate. |
| **Voice Boost** | The same video with the sound brought to a steady, louder level (loudness normalisation); the picture is copied untouched. |
| **Check silence** | Measures the silence and tells you how much **Smart Speed** would cut. |
| **Smart Speed** | An audio file (M4A) with the silences cut and the level evened out, as with **Voice Boost**. The picture is dropped. |

### Cut a part

1. Type **Start (hh:mm:ss)**, **End (hh:mm:ss)**, or both. Leave one empty to cut from the beginning or to the end.
2. Click **Trim**.

The cut copies the streams without re-encoding, so it is fast but starts at the nearest keyframe. For a cut on the exact frame, use **Trim with preview** in [Download tools](https://getomniget.com/docs/dl-tools).

### Describe what you want

1. Under **Describe what you want**, type the edit, for example _make it 720p and mute it_.
2. Click **Propose**. Your AI provider turns the sentence into an FFmpeg command.
3. Read the command under **Review the command before running**. OmniGet fills in the input and output files itself.
4. Click **Run**. The new file is saved next to the original, with `.ai` added to its name.

OmniGet accepts only codec, filter and trim options from the AI, never shell commands, and it checks the command again before it runs.

Note

**Describe what you want** needs an AI provider. Set one up in **Settings › AI and agents** first; see [AI provider](https://getomniget.com/docs/ai-provider). Without it, **Propose** answers **Configure an AI provider in Settings first**.

## Common problems

### Configure an AI provider in Settings first

No AI provider is set up. Follow [AI provider](https://getomniget.com/docs/ai-provider), then click **Propose** again. The quick actions work without one.

### Almost no silence to cut here

**Check silence** found too little silence for **Smart Speed** to make a difference.

### The action fails at once

These tools need FFmpeg. Check that it shows **Installed** in [Dependencies](https://getomniget.com/docs/dependencies).
