# yt-dlp command

When the options on Home are not enough, the **yt-dlp command** panel lets you type the yt-dlp arguments yourself. You can save the flags you repeat as templates, and every item in the queue shows the command OmniGet ran, ready to copy or edit.

## Where it is

- **Home › More ways to download** (the button at the left of the box) **› yt-dlp command…**
- **Settings › Downloads › Templates** (under **Show advanced options**) opens the same panel.
- In the [Queue](https://getomniget.com/docs/queue), each download has a **Command** line.

## How to use it

### Run a command

1. Open **More ways to download › yt-dlp command…**.
2. In **URL**, paste the link.
3. In **Arguments**, type the yt-dlp flags, for example `-f bv*+ba/b --merge-output-format mp4`. Separate flags with spaces and put quotes around values that contain spaces.
4. Click **Download**. OmniGet shows **Download queued** and the download appears in the [Queue](https://getomniget.com/docs/queue).
5. Click **Back** to return to the simple box.

You do not type the URL or the output folder in **Arguments**: OmniGet adds the link from **URL** and saves to your **Default folder** (or asks, if **Always ask where to save** is on).

### Save a template

1. Type the flags in **Arguments**.
2. Under **Templates**, type a name in **Template name**.
3. Click **Save**. OmniGet shows **Template saved**.

To use a template, click its name in the list: its flags fill **Arguments**. Each template shows how many flags it has.

To change a template, click it, edit the flags or the name, and click **Update**. Click **\+ New** to start an empty one. Click the bin icon (**Delete template**) to remove it.

### Copy or edit the command of a queue item

1. In the [Queue](https://getomniget.com/docs/queue), click **Command** on a download. The label next to it shows the engine that ran it, or **custom** if you edited it.
2. Click **Copy command** to copy the full command.
3. On a finished or failed download, click **Edit & retry** to change the yt-dlp flags.
4. Click **Run this command**, or press `⌘↩` (macOS) / `Ctrl+Enter`. OmniGet shows **Re-queued with your command**.

When you edit a queue command, the URL stays the same and OmniGet adds its progress flags. The edited command runs once, with no automatic retries. A failed download opens its **Command** line by itself so you can see what ran.

## Options

| Option | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **URL** | The link to download. | Empty |
| **Arguments** | The yt-dlp flags for this download. | Empty |
| **Templates** | Saved sets of flags, kept between sessions. | None (**Save flags you use often.**) |

## Shortcuts

| Action | Keys |
| --- | --- |
| Run an edited queue command | `⌘↩` (macOS) / `Ctrl+Enter` |
| Cancel editing a queue command | `esc` (macOS) / `Esc` |

## Common problems

### Type a URL first

**Download** needs a link in **URL**.

### Give the template a name

**Save** needs a name in **Template name**.

### Could not run the command

OmniGet could not run the edited command. The text after **Could not run the command:** gives the reason. Fix the flags and run it again.

### This link has expired or had its access key removed for privacy.

The saved link of that download no longer works. Paste the original link again on Home.

### Edit & retry is missing

You can edit the command only after the download has finished or failed. While it runs, you can still **Copy command**.
