Requirements and formats

  • Apple Silicon (.dmg): Macs with M1 or later.
  • Intel (.dmg): Macs with an Intel processor.
  • Not sure? Apple menu > About This Mac shows Chip (Apple Silicon) or Processor (Intel).

First launch

OmniGet is not notarized by Apple yet, so the first time your Mac refuses to open it and may say it is damaged. It is not. Do this once:

  1. Open the .dmg and drag OmniGet into Applications.
  2. Open OmniGet. When macOS refuses, click Done or OK.
  3. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to OmniGet, then confirm.

If macOS says the app is damaged and shows no Open Anyway button, open Terminal and paste:

After you install

  1. The first screen asks for your language, then installs yt-dlp and FFmpeg with one click.

  2. Copy a link, paste it on the home screen, pick a quality and press Enter.

  3. Optional: add the browser extension from Settings to save what you see while logged in.

Why does my Mac say OmniGet is damaged?

macOS says that about apps downloaded from the internet that are not notarized. The file is fine: compare its SHA-256 with the one on GitHub, then follow the steps above.

Apple Silicon or Intel?

Apple menu > About This Mac. If you see Chip, pick Apple Silicon. If you see Processor, pick Intel.
