Organize and automate
Clipboard and global hotkeys
OmniGet can watch the clipboard and fill Home with any link you copy, and even start the download by itself. Global hotkeys go one step further: from any app, a key combination downloads the link in your clipboard as a video or as music, without opening OmniGet.
Where it is
- Settings › Downloads › Clipboard & hotkeys: Clipboard detection and Auto-download on paste.
- Settings › Downloads › Keyboard shortcuts, under Show advanced options: the download and music hotkeys.
How to use it
Let OmniGet notice copied links
- Turn on Clipboard detection.
- Copy a link in any app.
OmniGet fills the box on Home with the link, opens Home if you were elsewhere, and shows Link detected! Paste to download. Nothing downloads until you confirm on Home.
To skip that step, also turn on Auto-download on paste. Then OmniGet shows Auto-download started and starts the download about 2 seconds after it recognises the link, with your default choices. Auto-download on paste works only while Clipboard detection is on.
Download the clipboard link with a hotkey
- Open Keyboard shortcuts under Show advanced options.
- Turn on Global hotkey. Hotkey shortcut appears, set to ⇧⌘DCtrl+Shift+D.
- Copy a link anywhere, then press ⇧⌘DCtrl+Shift+D.
OmniGet adds the link to the queue with your default folder and quality and shows Link from the clipboard added to downloads. If the clipboard holds no link, it says The clipboard has no link to download.
Download the clipboard link as music
- Turn on Music download hotkey. Music hotkey shortcut appears, set to ⇧⌘MCtrl+Shift+M.
- Copy a link and press ⇧⌘MCtrl+Shift+M.
The link downloads as audio, in the format chosen in Music download format (Settings › Downloads › Output). See Audio only.
Copy the file when it is done
With Global hotkey on, Copy file to clipboard after hotkey download appears under it. It is on by default: when a download started by either hotkey finishes, OmniGet copies the file itself to the clipboard and shows File copied to clipboard, so you can paste it into a chat or an email.
Change a hotkey
Next to a hotkey, pick Record and click the box, then press the new combination; escEsc cancels. Or pick Type and write it, for example CmdOrCtrl+Shift+D. Then click Save in the bar that appears.
Open the Omni companion
⇧⌘OCtrl+Shift+O opens or hides the Omni companion window from anywhere. This hotkey is always on and cannot be changed here. See Omni, the companion.

Common problems
The global hotkey needs Accessibility permission
On macOS, OmniGet shows The global hotkey needs Accessibility permission when it cannot register the combination. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and turn on OmniGet.
The hotkey does nothing on Windows or Linux
Another app probably uses the same combination. Pick a different one with Record and click Save.
That link is already in your downloads
The link is already in the queue, so the hotkey did not add it twice.
