Superpowers
Global Downloader
The Global Downloader is a browser that OmniGet controls. You log in and browse as usual, and OmniGet lists the media each tab plays so you can download it, or resolves a whole page into a tree of items with a connector.
Where it is
Open Superpowers in the sidebar and choose the Global Downloader card. Unlike the other superpowers, it has no switch in Settings › Integrations: the card is always shown, and the browser only starts when you choose Open browser.
How to use it
Open the browser
- Choose Open browser. The pill next to it changes from Browser closed to Browser open.
- OmniGet uses Chrome, Edge, Brave or Chromium if one is installed, with a separate OmniGet profile. Your normal browser and its profile are not touched.
- If none is installed, the first start downloads Chrome for Testing once.
- Log in to the sites you use, with your own accounts, in that browser window.
To open a page from OmniGet, type a URL in Type a URL to open in a new tab and choose Open tab.
Download what a tab plays
- Play a video or open a file in a tab.
- It shows up under Media found, with its kind (video, audio, HLS, DASH, subtitle or document) and size. Choose Media on a tab in Tabs to see only that tab.
- Choose Download next to the item.
Ad media is left out of the list. Clear empties it.
Resolve a page
- In Tabs, choose Resolve on a tab, or type a URL and choose Resolve.
- The right side shows a tree of what can be downloaded, with the connector that found it (or sniffer when no connector matched), the number of items and the time it took.
- Tick the items you want, pick the Folder and the quality (Best quality, 1080p, 720p or 480p), then choose Download with the count.
- Follow the job under Downloads. Cancel stops a running job; Clear finished removes the finished ones.
Without a connector, a page resolves to the media its tab loaded plus the page itself, which is handed to yt-dlp. Items that need a DRM license are marked DRM and skipped. OmniGet does not break DRM or paywalls.
Running a job again downloads only what is missing: files that already exist with content are skipped.
Connectors
A connector is a small folder with a manifest.json and a connector.js that tells OmniGet where the media on one site is. OmniGet ships with no connectors.
- Under Connectors, choose Add folder and pick the connector’s folder.
- If the connector has settings, choose Options, change them and choose Save.
- Remove unlinks it.
A connector can only reach the hosts listed in its manifest. Hosts whose owners asked OmniGet not to support them are refused when the connector loads.
Options
| Option | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Folder | Where the selected items of a resolved page are saved. | |
| Quality | The highest video height for items in the tree: Best quality, 1080p, 720p or 480p. | Best quality |
| Options (per connector) | Settings the connector declares in its manifest. | The connector’s defaults |
Common problems
The browser does not open
OmniGet needs a Chromium browser. When none is installed, it downloads Chrome for Testing, which has no build for some systems. Install Chrome, Edge, Brave or Chromium and choose Open browser again.
Nothing shows up under Media found
Media only shows up after the tab loads it. Start playback in the tab. Streams split into small segments show up as their HLS or DASH playlist, not as the segments.
Items are skipped as DRM
Those items need a license from the site to play. OmniGet never downloads them and counts them as DRM in the job summary.
