Getting started

First launch

The first time OmniGet opens, a short setup of 6 steps installs the download engine and sets a few preferences. Every step can be changed later in Settings, and you can leave the setup at any moment.

Where it is

It opens by itself over the window on the first launch. The top of the dialog shows which step you are on and a progress line. Skip setup at the top right closes it at any step; Back and Continue at the bottom move between steps.

How to use it

Welcome

Paste a link. Get the file. Two settings:

  • Language: the language of the app. OmniGet starts in your system language when it has a translation for it. See Languages.
  • Appearance: Match system, Light or Dark. See Appearance and themes.

Install the download engine

yt-dlp fetches the media and FFmpeg joins the video and audio. The step lists both with their status.

  1. Click Install everything, or Install on one line.
  2. Wait until it shows Everything is installed. You’re ready to download.

You can click Continue without installing. Downloads will not start until yt-dlp is there, and a banner on top of the window says so. See Dependencies.

Pick a nickname

Type a nickname and pick an avatar colour. The nickname stays on this computer and shows up when you share something. You can skip this step and set it later in Settings › General › Local profile. See Startup and profile.

Meet your agents

OmniGet comes with a team of AI agents: Omni coordinates, Builder writes code and Scout reads and researches. You can edit, replace or delete any of them later in LLM › Agents. The step also introduces the two places where agents work:

  • LLM: chat, attach a folder and let an agent read, edit and run code. It asks before it writes.
  • Canvas: the board where your agents work side by side.

Nothing to set here. See Agents, memory and skills.

Your AI tools

OmniGet looks for coding CLIs on your computer (Looking for AI tools…) and lists the ones it finds, with their version.

  • When a tool has saved sessions, its line shows how many and a button Import … recent. It brings up to 20 recent sessions into OmniGet as threads. See Threads.
  • Starter setup offers a small set for every detected tool: a web fetch MCP server, a systematic-debugging skill and a “dev” permissions profile. Click Plan for … tools to see what would change and which commands would run, then Apply to write the files. Nothing is written before you apply. You can undo it later in LLM › Catalog › Installed.

If no CLI is found, the step says No coding CLI found. You can install one later in LLM › Tools. and offers Open Tools. See Coding tools.

You’re ready

The last step shows Downloads go to and the folder in use. Click Change folder to pick another one. The global hotkey, the browser extension and Discord presence are not set here; they live in Settings.

Click Paste my first link to close the setup and go to Home.

After the setup

When the setup closes, OmniGet shows Use OmniGet responsibly once: you only download content you own, have a licence for or that is free to reuse, and you respect each site’s terms. Click I understand to continue.

The setup does not come back on later launches. Every choice it made can be changed in Settings:

Choice in the setup Where to change it later
Language Settings › General › Language
Appearance Settings › Appearance › Theme
Download engine Settings › Advanced › Dependencies
Nickname and colour Settings › General › Local profile
Download folder Settings › Downloads › Files and folders

Common problems

The engine install fails

The install needs an internet connection. Click Continue, finish the setup, then retry from Settings › Advanced › Dependencies. See Troubleshooting.
