Proxy and network
OmniGet can send its downloads through a proxy, with a user name and password when the proxy needs them. Two expert options sit next to it: a custom User-Agent, and reading cookies straight from a browser profile.
Where it is
- Settings › Advanced › Network: the proxy.
- Settings › Advanced › Expert options, under Show advanced options: Custom User-Agent (advanced) and Read cookies directly from a browser profile (advanced).
- Downloads › Tools › Proxy check: tests a proxy. See Download tools.
How to use it
Set up a proxy
- Open Settings › Advanced › Network.
- Turn on Enable proxy.
- Pick the Type: HTTP, HTTPS or SOCKS5.
- Type the Host (an address such as
127.0.0.1or a name) and the Port. - If the proxy needs a login, fill in Username and Password.
- Click Save in the bar that appears.
A saved password is never shown again: the field shows dots. Type a new one to replace it, or click Remove to delete it. Turn Enable proxy off and save to stop using the proxy; the other fields are kept.
Test the proxy
- Open Downloads › Tools › Proxy check.
- Leave the box empty to test the proxy saved in Settings, or type another one, for example
socks5://127.0.0.1:7890. - Optionally add a Link to test (optional).
- Click Test proxy.
OmniGet shows the address and country sites see Through the proxy and Without a proxy. If they are the same, it warns that the proxy is not hiding where you are. With a link, it shows whether the link opened through the proxy and how fast. Use this proxy for all downloads saves a tested proxy in Settings › Advanced › Network.
Send a custom User-Agent
In Expert options, type a browser identification string in Custom User-Agent (advanced). Downloads send it instead of the default. Leave the box empty to go back to the default browser User-Agent.
Read cookies from a browser
In Expert options, type a browser name in Read cookies directly from a browser profile (advanced), for example firefox, chrome or edge. Downloads then read that browser’s cookies directly.
This works only when Always use managed cookies is off in Accounts and cookies, and only for sites that have no cookies saved there. The Browser extension is the safer way: use this option only when the extension does not work for you.

Common problems
Downloads are slow or stall after turning on the proxy
Test it with Proxy check. If the link does not open through the proxy, the proxy is down or blocks the site; turn Enable proxy off to download directly.
The proxy settings do not save
Host cannot be empty while Enable proxy is on, and Port must be a whole number. Fix the field the form points to and click Save again.
Cookies from the browser are not used
Check that Always use managed cookies is off, and that the site has no card in Cookies.
