FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most often. Each one points to the page with the full details.

Is OmniGet free?

Yes. It is free and open source under GPL-3.0, with no paid tier and no ads. See Introduction.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no OmniGet account and no sign-in. You only sign in to the sites and services you choose, with your own accounts. See Privacy in the app.

Which sites does it work with?

1,000+ sites, through its own extractors and yt-dlp. Sites change, so a link that worked last month can stop working until yt-dlp is updated. See Sites and engines.

Does it download DRM-protected videos?

No. OmniGet does not break DRM or paywalls. It downloads what your own session can already open. See Troubleshooting.

Windows or macOS blocks the app on first launch. Is something wrong?

No. OmniGet has no paid code-signing certificate, so the system asks once. Check the hash on the download page, then follow the steps in Troubleshooting.

A download that used to work now fails. What do I do?

Update yt-dlp in Settings › Advanced › Dependencies and try again. If the new version made it worse, roll back from the same row. See Troubleshooting.

How do I download something that needs my login?

Sign in on the site in your browser, then send its cookies to OmniGet with the browser extension or import a cookies.txt. Only use your own accounts. See Accounts and cookies.

Do I need an AI provider to download?

No. Downloading works without any AI. A provider is only needed for AI features such as summaries, transcripts and the AI video tools. See AI provider.

Can Claude Code or another AI tool use OmniGet?

Yes. OmniGet runs an MCP server on your computer; a coding tool can ask to connect and you approve it in the OmniGet window. See OmniGet as an MCP server and Local bridge and token.

Is there a phone or web version?

No. OmniGet is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is not an online service. See Install.

In which languages is the app?

12 languages. Translations come from the community on Weblate, and some are more complete than others. See Languages.

How do I report a bug?

Copy the debug info or create a diagnostics file, then send it through the contact page with the link that failed. See Troubleshooting.
