Privacy in the app
OmniGet runs on your computer, with no account to create and no telemetry about what you download. Cookies, API keys and your settings stay in your local profile; this page lists when the app does reach the internet, and why.
What stays on your computer
- Your downloads, the queue and its history.
- Cookies you import or send from the browser extension. The Cookies section says it plainly: nothing is sent to OmniGet’s servers.
- API keys and logins for AI tools.
- Your profile, settings, agents, notes and Canvas boards.
There is no sign-in to OmniGet itself. The local bridge that the extension and your AI tools use listens only on 127.0.0.1, so other computers cannot reach it.
What leaves your computer
| When | Where it goes | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| You download something | The site you download from | The requests your browser would make, with your cookies for that site if you saved them |
| OmniGet starts | getomniget.com (GitHub as a fallback) |
A check for a new version |
| You install or update yt-dlp, FFmpeg and the other tools | The release pages of those projects | A normal file download |
| You use an AI feature | The AI provider or tool you configured | Your prompt and the content you asked it to work on |
| You send or receive a file with a code | OmniGet’s relay server | The file itself, on its way to the other person |
| You sign in to Telegram | Telegram | What any Telegram app sends |
| Discord is open | The Discord app on your computer | What you are listening to, watching or reading |
| You follow channels | The sites of those channels | A check for new uploads, in the background |
AI providers
AI is off until you choose a provider in AI provider or connect a tool in LLM. After that, a request goes to that provider only when you use an AI feature, and it carries the text or file the feature needs. A local model through Ollama keeps everything on your machine.
Sending files with a code
Send a file with a code passes the file through OmniGet’s relay server so two computers can find each other. The app does not add its own encryption on top of that connection, so do not use it for sensitive files.
Discord Rich Presence
Show activity on Discord is on by default. It shows what you are listening to, watching or reading on your Discord profile; downloads are not shown. It talks to the Discord app on your computer, and Discord publishes it. Turn it off in Settings › Integrations › Discord Rich Presence.
Superpowers
Some Superpowers talk to the service they are built around: OmniTube to YouTube, Telegram to Telegram, and Music can look up lyrics and track details on LRCLIB and MusicBrainz.
Reports you send yourself
The debug info and the diagnostics file in Troubleshooting are saved on your computer. They are only sent if you attach them to a message yourself. The diagnostics file masks tokens, e-mail addresses and your home folder.
