Torrents and magnet links

OmniGet downloads torrents with a built-in BitTorrent engine, so you do not need another app. Open a .torrent file or paste a magnet link, tick the files you want, and the torrent joins the same queue as every other download.

Download only files you have the right to share and keep.

Where it is

  • Home, in the Paste a link or search box (magnet links).
  • Home › More ways to download (the button at the left of the box) › Open a torrent file…
  • Drag a .torrent file onto the OmniGet window.
  • Settings: Settings › Advanced › Network & torrent (click Show advanced options).

How to use it

  1. Paste a magnet link (magnet:?xt=…) in the box, or open a .torrent file with Open a torrent file…, or drop it on the window.
  2. OmniGet shows Reading torrent contents… while it reads the file list. For a magnet link this can take a while, because the list has to come from other peers first.
  3. Every file comes ticked, with its size. The counter shows how many are ticked, as N of M files.
  4. Untick the files you do not want. Use Select all or None to change every file at once.
  5. Click Download N files. The torrent goes to the Queue.

Options

In Settings › Advanced › Network & torrent:

Option What it does Default
Torrent listen port The TCP port for incoming BitTorrent connections. Any port from 1024 to 65525. 6881
Add extra public trackers Adds public trackers to find more peers for magnets with few or dead trackers. On
Open router port (UPnP) Asks your router to accept incoming peer connections, for faster torrents. On

Common problems

Select at least one file to download

You unticked every file. Tick at least one, or click Select all.

The file list never appears

A magnet link has no file list of its own; OmniGet has to get it from peers. If nobody is sharing the torrent, the list cannot load. Keep Add extra public trackers on, or try a .torrent file instead.

The torrent is slow

Few peers are sharing it, or incoming connections are blocked. Keep Open router port (UPnP) on, and allow OmniGet through your firewall on the Torrent listen port. If your router does not support UPnP, forward that port by hand.
