Browser extension

The OmniGet browser extension sends the page you are on, the videos it detects and the cookies of your own sessions to the desktop app. It talks only to OmniGet on your own computer, over a local connection protected by a pairing token.

Where it is

  • Settings › Integrations › Update / Install: installs or updates the extension that comes with the app.
  • Settings › Integrations › Browser extension: pairs it with the app. Endpoint URL, Pairing token and Rotate token are under Show advanced options.
  • In the browser: the OmniGet icon in the toolbar, the right-click menu, and ⌥OAlt+O.

The extension is not on the browser stores yet. It ships inside OmniGet and you load it by hand, as below.

How to use it

Install it in Chrome, Edge or Brave

  1. In OmniGet, open Settings › Integrations and find Update / Install.
  2. Next to Chrome / Edge / Brave, click Update / Install. OmniGet extracts the extension and shows the folder, with Open folder.
  3. In the browser, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode and click Load unpacked.
  4. Pick the extracted folder.

It is an MV3 extension.

Install it in Firefox

  1. Click Update / Install next to Firefox.
  2. In Firefox, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox and click Load Temporary Add-on.
  3. Pick manifest.json in the extracted folder.

Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it restarts, so repeat these steps after each restart until the extension is published on the Firefox add-ons site. It needs Firefox 109 or newer.

Safari is not supported yet: the row shows Unavailable.

Update it

Click Update / Install again. Then, in chrome://extensions (or about:debugging in Firefox), reload the extension from the same folder, or remove the old copy and load the new one.

Pair it with the app

  1. Make sure the browser with the extension is open.
  2. In Settings › Integrations › Browser extension, click Pair extension.
  3. The pairing window stays open for 120 seconds. The extension connects on its own and OmniGet shows Extension connected — you’re all set.

To pair by hand instead, open the extension’s options page, paste the Pairing token from OmniGet (use Reveal and Copy under Show advanced options) and click Pair now. The endpoint is OmniGet’s local bridge on port 47720; change it under Advanced: change endpoint URL only if OmniGet uses another port. Test connection checks the link. See Local bridge and token.

Send a page or a video

On a page with media, click the OmniGet icon. The popup shows:

  • The main button, named after what it found: Send video to OmniGet, Send playlist to OmniGet, Send reel to OmniGet and so on, or Send to OmniGet.
  • The videos and audio the page loaded (Video found, … videos found), each with its own download button and size, and Send all (… videos).
  • Save site cookies, which sends the cookies of this site to Accounts and cookies.

What you send goes straight to the Queue with your default folder and quality. When Always ask where to save is on, OmniGet opens Home with the link filled in instead.

With the popup closed, press ⌥OAlt+O to send the current page. On a page the extension does not recognise, ⌥OAlt+O opens the popup instead. You can change the key in your browser’s extension shortcuts page.

Use the right-click menu

  • On a link, a video, an audio or an image: Download with OmniGet.
  • On the page: Download this page with OmniGet.
  • On selected text: Download the links in the selection with OmniGet.

Common problems

OmniGet is not running

The extension cannot reach the app. Open OmniGet (it can stay in the tray) and click Try again. If OmniGet is not installed yet, get it from the download page.

Pairing window expired — is the extension installed and the browser open?

The extension did not connect in time. Check that it is loaded and enabled, keep the browser open, and click Pair extension again.

Pair OmniGet first or Bad pairing token

The extension has no token, or an old one after Rotate token. Pair it again.

Bridge unavailable. Try restarting the app.

The local bridge did not start. Quit OmniGet from the tray and open it again.

The extension’s options page says Settings → Network

The pairing controls are in Settings › Integrations › Browser extension.
